Top 5 Worst Horror Movie Remakes

In response to my popular post last week on the best horror movie remakes, I figured I'd do a follow-up. This time, talking about the worst horror remakes around. The ones that to me, don't offer anything new or creative, and don't do the originals justice. As always, when remakes are brought up, it's bound to draw attention in both the positive and negative. Remakes are the hardest thing for genre fans to agree or disagree on. I won't be surprised if many disagree with this list. I also won't be surprised if many agree.

Before you read this list, you should make sure and check out last weeks post first. Top 5 Horror Movie Remakes

The movies listed below are the worst of the worst. And yes, before anyone says anything, Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remake is on the list. I think Rob is more controversial and hated than remakes at times. I personally, don't have any issues with him, and I enjoy most of his work. However, his remake of the greatest horror film ever was atrocious to me, as is the sequel. There are worse remakes out there though, and there all here too.

1) One Missed Call (2008)

2) Day of the Dead (2008)

3) Prom Night (2008)

4) The Fog (2005)

5) Halloween (2007)

  1. First of all, be thankful that you haven't seen any of the others, because they're worse than Halloween LOL

Halloween (1978) is my favorite horror film of all-time. I like Rob as a musician and director, so I had a lot of hype going into it and it didn't do anything for me. I have countless reasons why I don't like it. Primarily being that he added backstory. I get that, it's a new take/new story. However, if you're going to add an origin story it needs to hold water. Instead, Myers became a bullied kid who had a bad home life. Not only does the origin story not take any thought at all and is completely typical, but I want to be scared of Myers, not feel bad for him. Same thing happened with Texas Chainsaw 3d, and I hated it. I get why some would like Halloween, I can get it. As a film on it's own, I'd be a fan. But, nothing about it says Halloween or Michael Myers to me.

  2. oh man, I agree with you on everything but Halloween. But not being a fan of the Halloween series, other than III and Zombie's movies, it might be why I like it so much.

But Day of the Dead I 100% agree. I always say, if a movie stars a rapper, its gonna suck. Very few exceptions.

    1. Oh yeah, any film with a rapper is doomed. Every musician and wrestler thinks they can act now. It's quite funny!

  3. Can't argue with anything here, though I have yet to see the Prom Night remake. It probably ain't gonna happen. Actually, I didn't see The Fog either. Didn't they also remake April Fools Day?? You should have made this a top ten instead of five :-)

    1. I could make a top 20 list! LOL

And yeah, they did indeed remake April Fool's Day. Terrible.

  4. "Day" and "The Fog" are definitely on my list too... haven't seen the Halloween remake(s), but if it is anything like the other Carpenter remakes, I assume it's pure garbage.

The "Night of the Living Dead" remakes deserve to have their own list. That 3D one with Sid Haig made me want to barf.

    1. I like Sid Haig as a person, but he's been in A LOT of bad films. I agree the whole living dead series needs a list of bad to worse, haha.
