The Walking Dead The Complete First Season

I've watched every episode of this show when it aired and loved it, and now that my girlfriend and I's anniversary was last week she hooked me up with the dvd. I love this show, it's an hour long zombie movie in each episode. The acting and gore, as well as effects, are top notch and done to perfection. But it does have it's down side for me, the first being that the season was so short that I feel there should have been alot of character developement that never happened. The only character who we see character developement from is Shane (played by Jon Bernthal) and he does a great job however.

The other downfall for me is the season finale. It was a good finale, don't get me wrong, but I feel that there should have been more of a bang for the ending. It ended as though it were just another episode and not a finale, finale's are supposed to hit hard and the ending of this finale just didn't cut it. Still a great show and I'm already counting the days 'til season 2. If you haven't watched this show then you're either living under a rock or zombies aren't your thing, but if you want to be entertained and watch a good quality show then check this out. Put it on your Netflix queue.

Overall I give this show 3 stars. For those of you living under a rock, check out the trailer.

Inside

This is one of the scariest horror films I have ever seen as well as one of the best. Me and some friends were talking about horror films and how foreign horror is where horror is it's best at right now. And in our conversation it was suggested to me to see Inside. And so I did. It kicked my ass! So brutal and violent and gory yet not torture porn. It was just a balls to the wall horror film.

The movie starts off with a pregnant woman getting into a car crash and killing her boyfriend (father to the child). After this incident she becomes grumpy and cold, not much happiness in her life, even though she kept the baby. And the day before she's going to go into labor a mysterious woman comes to her door in the night hours of a storm wanting to use the phone. After being denied to use the phone she breaks into the house and tries to cut the baby out of the woman using scissors while she's asleep. When our lead wakes up it becomes a battle of survival as she's forced to hide and fight back against the mysterious woman. And it gets bloody.

4 stars hands down for me. Great horror flick. Check out the trailer below.

SCRE4M

This movie was awesome! And I had the privledge of seeing the midnight premiere of this film and while I didn't get my hopes up, I wasn't disapointed. By far the best film after the original. It's hip like the first, has a sexy young cast and had plenty of laughs as well as some brutal kills. This movie delivered. It made me proud to be a Scream fan again.

Soon after her book release (and the success of it) Sidney Prescot finds a bloody knife and a picture of her face in the trunk of her rental car. The knife belonging to a crime scene the night before in which some girls were killed in the style of original murders. Sidney, Duey and Gale as well as some new names join in on the fun of finding the killer while they're all looking suspicious. This movie is fun, go see it!

I love how they had so many movie references in this one just like the first film. They mention Saw 4 (and trash it as well as the whole series) and Anthony Anderson (who is hillarious in this film) played a cop named Anthony Perkins. Now if you don't know who that is then don't admit it because you should. They also mention Robert Rodriguez in a cool way. They have a few other honorable mentions within the movie including having Suspiria on dvd.

4 stars for me. Check the trailer.

Dark Night Of The Scarecrow

I've waited a long time to see this film so I watched it as soon as it arrived via Netflix. I was a bit disapointed with it to be honest but I think it was due to the hype I put behind it. I still genuinly enjoyed this film and loved the story.

This story takes place in a town where a mentally challenged man named Bubba is best friends with a little girl named Marylee Williams. And some of the townspeople don't like Bubba and Marylee's friendship and after Marylee gets attacked by a dog, the townspeople blame Bubba and kill him as he's disguised as a scarecrow hiding from them. Soon after his murder the killers find out that Bubba was infact the person to save Marylee from the dog attack.

The next night Bubba comes back to life as the scarecrow he died as and comes for the townspeople one by one until his death is avenged.

2 1/2 stars for me but that's not that bad, I still enjoyed the movie. View the trailer below.

Martyrs

This movie is unlike anything you've ever seen and probably ever will see again. Every now and again a truly original story like this comes along and knocks us on our asses and leaves us in awe. I had to review this movie to get the word out to people who haven't seen this masterpiece yet. If you're a horror fan and haven't watched this I suggest you add it to your Netflix queue now or go to your local video store and get it.

Synopsis taken from IMDb
Fifteen years after a horrifying experience of abduction and prolonged torture, Lucie embarks on a bloody quest for revenge against her oppressors. Along with her childhood friend, Anna, who also suffered abuse, she quickly descends, without hope, into madness and her own delusions. Anna, left on her own begins to re-experience what Lucie did when she was only twelve years old.

This is easily in my top favorite horror films. It's so well acted and such a compelling story, it will mess your head up.

4 stars is my verdict and check out the trailer below.

The SAW legacy (2004-2010)

I'm sure we can all agree that atleast a few of the sequels were bad and I, personally, thought everything after Saw 2 was garbage. I mean seriously they continued the series 4 more movies after Jigsaw's death and I think that was just pointless. I could go on and on but the more I thought about it the more I realized that Saw hasn't done anything that our favorite horror movies haven't. Think of Halloween, Friday The 13th, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Re-Animator, Child's Play.

Now think of how many sequels they had that were bad movies. Easily for me it's Halloween 6, A Nightmare On Elm Street part 5: The Dream Child and part 6 Freddy's Dead. As well as Friday the 13th part 5: A New Beginning and Jason X. These are terrible films in my opinion but I forgive them and live with it.

I don't know if it's it's because I grew up with these movies so I'm soft for them or if maybe, somehow, I still find them entertaining in some way. But I don't find myself being as forgiving to the Saw movies, I'd like to but I think they just went on past my point of caring and they went way off track after killing Jigsaw. I still love 1 and 2 and I think part 7 is the only sequel to do the first 2 justice, but it still falls short. I enjoyed The Final Chapter and that put a smile on my face.

Saw, to  me, doesn't compare to my favorite franchises of horror movies but it does stand on it's own and will forever be remembered. It left it's mark no matter what, even if you only wanted to acknowledge the first film you have to see the sequels it's spawned and the mark it left in the horror world. Am I a Saw fan? Yes. Disapointed a bit, but yes I am a fan. Are you?

H.P. Lovecraft's The Unnamable (1988)

Now I wasn't really impressed with this movie but it was a fun watch. There were a few good jumps and scares and the creature looked awesome! The suspense of having to wait 'til the end of the film to see the creature killed me but it was worth it. I still think the best H.P. Lovecraft based movie is by far Re-Animator, this film didn't come close but was still entertaining.

Synopsis from IMDb
Back in the 1800's a lady gives birth to a monster. They decide that the baby is too ugly to name, therefore the monster is known as the "Unnamable". The creature brutally slaughters his family, and gets trapped in a vault. Go ahead to 1998, and some college students have heard the story about the unnamable and want to check out the vault...

2 1/2 stars is my verdict. Still worth a watch if you haven't seen it. Check out the trailer.

Dead And Buried (1981)

I had been wanting to see this movie for a while but never got around to it and so after joining netflix it was one of my top pics. I liked this movie just for it's haunting aspects and I found it entertaining and enjoyable. And the effects were pretty decent, there were some bad effects but it's an older film and worked well with it's estimated budget of $3,000,000.

Synopsis taken from IMDb
Potters Bluff, Rhode Island. may seem to be a sleepy little town. At least for the casual visitor and the local sheriff, Daniel Gillis. However, all of a sudden, there are a lot of strange murders where strangers or people passing through are killed by mobs of townspeople. Only Sheriff Gillis has no clue to what's going on. Fortunately, the town has an excellent undertaker, William G. Dobbs, who is happy to take care of this sudden death-wave which is good for his business. Gillis soon discovers clues that lead to many of the local inhabitants involved in the killings, including his own wife Janet.

3 stars for me. Check out the trailer below.
