Synopsis taken from IMDb
The door of the mental hospital opens, releasing Ricky from it's confines. He takes with him the terrifying memory or his brother Billy's death and the burning image of Mother Superior-the powerful figure that brought about his brother's violent demise. For Ricky, starting a new life means avenging his brothers death. By whatever means necessary, wheather it be the cutting edge of a shiny steel knife blade, or the electrifying charge of a set of battery cables, Ricky is set in the blind journey of revenge leading ultimately to Mother Superior. As Mother Superior prays in the dark, we suggest she say an extra prayer for herself, because not even her faith will be enough to stop Ricky. But prayers will do little for the silent part of this night!
If you've read my review you know that I'm a big fan of the original Silent Night, Deadly Night movie. Good 80's slasher movie. Now I read nothing about the sequels going into them, I didn't look up any Rotten Tomatoes score or read fan reviews. But I was psyched because I was hoping this would be as good as the first...I was hoping...
Part me wants to say I liked this movie just because the first half hour of the film is a recap of the 1st Silent Night, Deadly Night! No exaggeration! There was small one word scenes of Ricky grown up in an asylum talking to a doctor about what happened to his brother, Billy. Then it would go right back into several minute of footage recapping the first film.
However, the part that I liked was also the part that ruined the movie. There was only around 40 minutes of new footage for this movie, the rest of the movie was a recap. This movie was put together so half-assed it aggravates me. Why would they chose this for a sequel? I don't know. I wish they had put thought into this and tried to make a good slasher film.
And the acting was atrocious, seriously bad acting and I hated the guy who played Ricky. His laugh was annoying as hell and he kept doing it. I seriously wanted to smack him. Even if they were going for a funny vibe in this movie it doesn't matter because you couldn't tell if he was acting that way on purpose or was just a crappy actor. And I'm guessing the ladder since I haven't seen or heard from him since this film.
The way he was talking to the doctor in between the 30 minute recap my spidey senses started to go off and my gut told me this wasn't going to be what I was expecting. And why they thought they'd get away with only making half a movie and using the other half as a recap and push that off as a movie should be fraud. Only it's not fraud because it's the same people making the sequels who did the first. Just another example of how studios are so quick to make a buck they don't care what they do to their integrity.
And his Santa is just...come on! Billy was such a better Killer Santa than this kid brother of his. He wasn't scary and you weren't scared of what he was going to do to people. He wasn't menacing or scary at all. This annoyed me.
The kills in this movie sucked, generic and cheap. Not scary or brutal or anything that hasn't been done before ten times better.
The ending to this movie was I guess, to be expected, it was lame. I didn't care who lived and who died I just wanted it to be over with. I could only hope 1 of the 4 sequels to the original Silent Night, Deadly Night would bring me some hope, some small glimmer of light to say the whole series didn't suck except the first.
Only a half star! Crap I was looking forward to watching this.
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. Yeah, that's all I saw fit to give it. It was totally forgettable.
