(SANTA MONICA – JULY 11, 2013) –Adam Green, acclaimed genre filmmaker (HATCHET; the upcoming DIGGING UP THE MARROW) and writer, producer and star of FEARnet’s original TV series HOLLISTON, will participate in a special panel and autograph signing at Comic-Con, on Thursday, July 18. The signing will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the autograph pavilion, with the panel at 8:30 p.m.  Joining Green will be HOLLISTON co-stars Laura Ortiz (THE HILLS HAVE EYES), and Dave Brockie (GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus), with series director Sean Becker (THE GUILD). The panel will be moderated by fan favorite Alison Haislip (THE VOICE, ATTACK OF THE SHOW). As an added bonus, Green and Brockie will be recording an episode of The Movie Crypt podcast live at the Geek Nation booth on the main convention floor from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. that same day. A HOLLISTON Season 2 poster signing will occur at the booth immediately following the podcast.

The brainchild of lifelong genre fan-turned-filmmaker Adam Green, HOLLISTON is an irreverent take on the traditional multi-camera situational comedy, aimed at lovers of true horror, sci-fi and pop culture. The series is currently in the middle of its second season—which premiered on June 4—filled with even more heartfelt hilarity and outrageous storylines, and featuring episodes inspired by J-Horror and Found Footage films, an animated episode, and a multitude of guest appearances from genre icons such as Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Kane Hodder, Derek Mears, Danielle Harris and Bailee Madison. HOLLISTON currently airs Tuesdays on FEARnet, at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

As a special event for fans who attend the panel, the group will unveil the world premiere of series character Lance Rockett’s (Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider) first music video in its entirety. Subsequently, fans can get a behind-the-scenes look at the music video exclusively on FEARnet, on Friday, August 2. The music video will run again during the HOLLISTON marathon on Monday, August 5, with a portion of the video debuting in the Season 2 finale on Tuesday, August 6. The original song, itself, “Love It Down Your Throat,” will be made available for purchase on iTunes right after the season finale airs.

“It feels great to be coming back to Comic-Con with HOLLISTON,” Green said. “The show was all but created for the Comic-Con crowd, mixing horror, Sci Fi, heavy metal and pop culture in a classic sitcom format that was always for ‘them’ and never for ‘us’. It’s incredible to see that the show still resonates so strongly with legions of geeks, like me."

HOLLISTON is produced by film and television production company ArieScope Pictures, which was founded in 1998 by Green, producer Cory Neal and cinematographer Will Barratt. ArieScope is an industry leader in independent genre fare, and has produced several theatrical titles over the years, including HATCHET, HATCHET 2, FROZEN, SPIRAL, GRACE, CHILLERAMA, HATCHET 3 and the upcoming DIGGING UP THE MARROW. Home Sweet Home Will Chill Your Bones

RATED- UNRATED
RUN TIME- 80 MINS
WRITER(S)- DAVID MORLET
STARRING- MARTY ADAMS, SHAUN BENSEN AND MEGHAN HEFFERN
DIRECTOR- DAVID MORLET

Synopsis taken from IMDb
A young married couple comes home from a date night to discover that they are imprisoned in their house with a methodical killer inside.

While on my recent tirade of Netflix film, I couldn't decide what to watch, nothing on my queue looked appealing at the time. So, I scrolled through the new releases and found a film from this year called "Home Sweet Home". The cover had me guessing it to be a low quality film, but I figured what the hell, and clicked play.

Right away, I could see that I was wrong about this one. I found myself not wanting to take my eyes off of the screen the entire film. And that's a rare thing. This movie is like "Halloween" meets "The Collector" and had a baby that looked a lot like "The Strangers". It's definitely a creepy film, there's no denying it.

This is another one of those home invasion films that just gets into your bones and makes your skin crawl. There's a few good jumps in it and an even better amount of suspense. I was really on edge watching it. It was like a common slasher film, but it has it's own touch and it stands out. One of those reasons is that the antagonist had a different outfit. Not that we haven't seen it before, but we haven't seen this particular outfit used as a slashers costume before. And his mask is cold and creepy as hell, as well as original!

The movie starts with a good build up. Nothing really happens the whole first half hour, but it's intriguing and never gets boring. When I realized this, I knew I had to give this movie a respectful nod. This film is the opposite of what you're used to seeing. Instead of a movie that makes you afraid to leave your house, this one makes you afraid to go home.

I was invested in how you spend some time with "The Killer". I liked how even though you know nothing about him, he gave off enough to show that he's a normal human being, just completely twisted. Shaun Benson really brought it while playing the role. You can see hints and traces of Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees' (head tilt), but it's not too much or overpowering. There's some well done homages in this film, and I always like it when a film can give another film a wink without stealing from it.

When the lead characters, Sara (Meghan Heffern) and Frank, (Adam Macdonald) realize there's someone in there house and it's too late to do anything. The movie carries on with Sara and Frank enjoying their night, not even knowing that the killer is in their home and has made it impossible for them to leave. You never know when he's going to come around the corner and catch you. The dialog seemed a little forced at points, but for the most part Sara and Frank came off as a real couple.

There is some gore in this film but, it's not a gory film at all. There's not an over abundance of blood, it's only used when necessary, and not overused, so I appreciated that. However, I know I've been singing this films praises, but it's not a perfect film. For one, the twist was very good, and a lot probably won't see it coming, but I did. Even though I liked the twist, having already predicted it hurt the impact it had. And there's some over acting as well.

I won't go into a rant about it, because it wasn't awful, you can just easily tell these aren't pro actors, but they do a decent job. And the biggest flaw with the film is how the ending dragged out. I didn't care for the slow motion close-ups with opera music blaring. I don't think that part fit into the film well because, the rest of the film isn't like that. It's almost as if they wanted it to suddenly become an artsy horror film, and I didn't like it. The ending is unsettling though, and leaves you shaking your head in disbelief.

Although this film suffers from some cliches and slight predictability, it's actually a good slasher film. There's only a few small things wrong with it, and had they been done better, this film would be a damn near perfect slasher film. It's taken down a peg or two due to flaws, but it's a good and entertaining horror film that's actually scary. If you get the chance to watch any Netflix, add this one to the queue.

Pacific Rim Defines Epic

RATED- PG-13
RUN TIME- 132 MINS
WRITER(S)- TRAVIS BEACHAM AND GUILLERMO DEL TORO
STARRING- CHARLIE HUNNAM, IDRIS ELBA AND RINKO KIKUCHI
DIRECTOR- GUILLERMO DEL TORO

Synopsis taken from IMDb
As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.

In a world where the apocalypse has been done what seems like a billion times over, leave it to none other than Guillermo Del Toro to fascinate us with not only something completely original, but truly epic. Earlier this year when the trailer hit, I was extremely excited for this film to land. And now that it has, I'm even more pumped because it was even better than my expectations built it up to be.

Truthfully speaking, this film is just completely amazing. I can't believe how good it is! It's one of those rare films where after you walk out of the theater, the first conversation piece is when you're seeing it again. This is one of those movies that I think everyone on the planet should see at least once in their lives, it should make everyone's bucket list. There wasn't a boring part in the entire film, the whole duration is thrilling and gripping, and it's damned near impossible to take your eyes off of the screen.

If you follow Del Toro as closely and loyally as I do, than you know his creative side, and that his creatures in every film are always unique and different. This film is no different. Despite the amount of Kaiju's shown in the film, they're all brilliantly designed and different. Nothing else considered, just looking at the intricate monsters is enjoyment enough. Not to mention the Jaeger's, which are fantastic as well.

The action scenes are unlike anything you've seen before, they're totally new and mesmerizing. I can't recall another film that's had action sequences of this proportion before, and I know the term gets thrown around a lot, but "Pacific Rim" is absolutely 100% epic. It's consumes and enthralls you from the opening scene until the end. There is nothing that isn't spectacular about this film! And the 3D is gorgeous! This is probably the best film in 3D I've ever seen.

One of the most important things that I have to say about this film, is that they did a very good job of keeping a lot of the film out of the trailers. You may think you know about this film from what commercials you've seen, but it's a whole other motion picture than what you'd expect! I love that. Even though I did like the "Evil Dead" remake, I have to admit that the best parts of that film were spoiled in the trailers. That is not the case with this masterpiece. This may just be Guillermo Del Toro's greatest film to date, it's definitely the most enjoyable.

I also have to mention Charlie Hunnam's performance. Although he can tend to be a little stiff sometimes, he really came out of his shell in this film as Raleigh Becket. I'm truly glad, because I feel that sometimes he can get overlooked as an actor. So it's really satisfying to see him showing off a different side of himself and playing someone completely new! Great job all around on the cast. And Idris Elba is phenomenal as Stacker Pentecost, and he rivals Hunnam.

There is only two small flaws that I found with this film. One of them being a spoiler, so I'm not spilling the beans, though it has nothing to do with a twist or the end of the film. And the other being that I don't feel that the fact that it was the end of the world was stressed enough. It's mentioned a few times, but due to the fact that you don't see any civilians living their lives, and how the Kaiju invasion has impacted them, you don't get a real connection that it's the apocalypse. Nonetheless, this is truly a near-perfect film. It's very, very close, and I haven't given a film this high of a rating in years.

It may be clichè, but the best word to describe this film is breathtaking. I reckon I'll see this film at least 5 more times when it comes out on Blu-Ray. This is the movie the world needs right now. This is what summer blockbusters are supposed to be.

Strippers vs Werewolves (2012)

RATED- UNRATED
RUN TIME- 93 MINS
WRITER(S)- PATT HIGGINS AND PHILIP BARRON
STARRING- ADELE SILVA, MARTIN COMPSTON AND BILLY MURRAY
DIRECTOR- JONATHAN GLENDENING

Synopsis taken from IMDb
When werewolf chief Jack Ferris is accidentally killed in a strip club the girls who work there have until the next full moon before his bloodthirsty wolfpack seek murderous retribution.

Again, not on good terms with Netflix's horror selection. I'm telling you, this is getting rough! I watched one last night called "Are you alone in the House?", and it was the most decent one I've seen in a while, but I still wasn't very fond of it. It was just better than the mass of terrible films streaming lately.

Yet again, I found myself uninterested in just about every second of this film. I mean, how the hell do you screw this up? Strippers = awesome and werewolves = awesome. But awesome isn't the final result of the film, in fact, it's far from it. You'd think with such a cool and fun combo of characteristics, that it'd be an enjoyable film. I found nothing about it amusing.

First of all, the werewolves look like monkeys. This is possibly the worst werewolves I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of bad ones. They look and appear to have taken no effort to make or design. Just fuzzy sideburns and ape faces. That in itself turned me off from the film.

I don't mind humor in my horror, never have, and if you've followed my blog, you'd know that. This film however, manages to not be funny in the least, tiniest bit. It was more annoying than anything! The jokes, gore, and one-liners weren't even so badly written that they were laughable, they were the bad where you heard crickets chirping.

The strippers were a waste. Every good looking one of them didn't show anything memorable, and the ones that did weren't worth looking at! It's that bad, where you can't even rely on hot chicks to make it better. Any and all hope this film had got trashed and burned out.

I'm making this review a short one. Quite frankly, there isn't anything left to say, other than going on a rant, and I try not to do that. Sometimes it's hard. I strongly advise you against this movie. Don't get duped by the cover like I did. Save yourself the 90 minutes of your life.
