Top 5 Horror Movie Remakes

The picture above was something that I saw on Facebook the other day, and posted it on my Grimm Reviewz page. It got me thinking, and I thought that it'd make a good post. Especially since I'm not a remake hater like so many others are. I'm don't necessarily approve of them but, I'm not one to hate them before giving them a chance. And regardless of what others believe, there actually are some good ones out there.

There's actually more than five that I can list but, five is a good number to stick with. The ones listed are ones that I not only thoroughly enjoy but, I consider to be better than their predecessors. I know remakes are controversial because loyal fans of the original films feel passionate about them, and don't want them remade. However, truth of the matter is, remakes can be really good. Below are my five choices, the ones that I consider the best, above and beyond.

1) The Thing (1982)

2) The Fly (1986)

3) The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

4) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

5) Dawn of the Dead (2004)

  2. I did a post similiar-ish post awhile ago. And the Thing was definitely on my list as well. Great minds do stink alike.

  3. All good choices man, only one I personally didn't care for was The Hills have Eyes, mainly because I never cared for the original.

    1. I absolutely hated the original. I'm completely surprised I love the remake as much as I do. Serious improvement imo.

  4. I'd place "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" from 1978 in there instead of the "Dawn of the Dead" remake, mostly because, while good, "DotD" didn't really bring anything new to the table that was better, in my opinion. The rest of the list I agree with.

    1. You're the 3rd person to tell me Invasion should be on the list! LOL Truth be told, I was never a fan of that one. If anything, I wish there was room for The Blob on here.

  5. Good list though I'll reserve the right to argue Dawn of the Dead 2004 wasn't quite as good as its daddy. On the Zombie front I actually thought, and I may be controversial here the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead is probably the best.

I'm interested to know what you think the worst horror remakes are? Day of the Dead 2008 has got to be up there.

  6. I like the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead too actually.

Yeah, I'll be doing a post next week on the 5 worst remakes, and yes, Day of the Dead 2008 is on there. Along with some other terrible ones, haha.

  7. I personally would swap out Dawn of the Dead and TCM with Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Blob, but that's just me! Good stuff.

    1. The Blob was very close to making this list! Love that film. If I hadn't just seen it, I'd have it on my Halloween list to watch.
