STORY:  "The Perfect Witness" had me intrigued instantly by it's description. However, I wasn't sure how well it would hold up. There's a lot of movies out there that sound intriguing and when I put them on I shut them off 10 minutes later. So I was pleased that this film brought the good stuff. This isn't just a slasher movie. It takes you inside the mind of a killer, it's as psychological as they get.

 Mick (Wes Bentley) has been tracking down a local serial killer James Lemac (Mark Borkowski) and the movie picks up with him finding James in an alley talking to a woman. While Mick hides behind a dumpster with his camera he records James sweet talking the broad before stabbing her to death. This scene was shot very gritty and raw, so I knew this movie had some potential and wanted to see where this was going. James sees Mick behind the dumpster and is shocked. Mick has James meet him on a public bench in a park the following day to make a deal; Mick won't turn James in or show anyone the tape, in return James has to allow himself to be filmed and interviewed by Mick on camera.

James is is hesitant and doesn't open up immediately. He even tries to snake in some conversation to get Mick to say somethings about himself, like where he goes to school and where he lives. Luckily, Mick isn't stupid and sees right through it and keeps it professional. He just wants James to open his mind to the camera and show people how he functions. Most importantly, Mick wants to get to the root of why James murders women so savagely. Mick starts to get closer than he wants as James opens up with him completely and introduces Mick to his sister, Megan (Joanne Baron).

Mick interviews Megan and learns that James and Megan's mother was a wretched woman and extremely abusive. This is proven to him when James takes him into the basement where his mother used to keep him chained up to pipes. There's even old drawings and notes that James made stuck between the pipes from when he was chained up. Mick comes to the conclusion that James kills women because in his mind he's killing his mother for all the abuse and torture he endured. Only his mother's already dead and in an ern in the house.

When Mick gets home he finds out his mother gave a strange man their address. She said he was nice and charming. Mick knows it was James and that despite playing along with Mick's deal, James has been doing some digging on his own. Soon after, Mick's mother goes missing and James won't let her go until Mick plays along with his new game. To tag along with James during his kills and assist him as well as record them. The stress and insanity of the whole situation drives Mick to heavy drinking and pill popping. Mick re-evaluates the stories told by Mick and Megan about their mother and puzzles together that their mother isn't dead, Emma Lemac (Beth Grant) is alive.

After disclosing this information with James things go from bad to worse when James gets violent with his sister for lying to him all these years about their mother. Mick does some work and discovers where Emma Lemac is so James can finish his work and cut out the root of his evil. Once face to face with his mother, James is faced with the toughest choice of his life. And Mick is too far gone to save.

ACTING: The acting in this movie is good. Mark Borkowski does a great job at playing a twisted maniac. Wes Bentley did some overacting, but kept it on point. These characters really make you feel something psychological and emotional and that's what's so convincing.



KILLS/GORE: The kills are done in a gruesome way that not only makes it realistic but makes you uneasy as the viewer. James Lemac is a twisted, sick man and getting in his head isn't good for anyone. I love how they showed you his methods and how he gets the ladies to open up to him. It was well done and made it rough to watch him when he go going.



OVERALL: This movie takes you into a psychopaths head but what it really shows you is the extent some people are willing to go to make a name for themselves. Regardless of how egotistical and low he has to be, Mick gives up everything. Risks his life and the lives of those around him for the sake of his own potential fame. Ultimately it's all Mick's fault. James says something like, "if it wasn't for you we wouldn't be here. If you'd turned in the tape and done the right thing we wouldn't be here right now." and that pretty much sums it up.

STORY: If you've followed my blog over the last year you've seen that I've watched and reviewed all of the "Silent Night, Deadly Night" films. While I'll never watch any of the sequels again, the first became one of my favorite slasher films ever. I loved it. When I heard of the remake I was indecisive on how I felt, I wanted to know if this film would do the original justice.

The story of this film is fresh and not copycatting the original, I liked that. This story centers around a guy who goes around wearing a Santa suit and is murdering townsfolk who've been naughty. In the original they spend a lot of time on the killer and on this one they just throw you right into it. Not to be discouraged, they do show you back story and the murderers past. In this one instead of knowing who the killer is the whole time, you gotta wait until the end to find out and that was something I liked as well. He leaves a track of bloody footprints after every scene, showing he's a massive guy.

Aubrey Bradimore (Jaimie King) is local law enforcement trying to take down the mad Santa and get a lead on who he is, how to stop him. Her superior, Sheriff Cooper (Malcolm McDowell) has the same intent on catching the Santa, but he has his own way of running things that cause tension between him and Aubrey.

He knows if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake.

ACTING: The acting in this film was fairly decent, the leads (King and McDowell) do a good job in their roles. The acting suffers a bit with some of the minor cast, but the movie has a bit of dark humor to it so it makes even the weaker acting go over just fine. The actors this film has works with the type of movie this is and the environment created for it.



KILLS/GORE: This film didn't hold back on the violence, brutality or bloodshed.  It's a real treat for you gore-hounds out there. This film is easily the bloodiest Christmas movie you'll ever see. Blood flows throughout the entire film practically and this Santa doesn't care how old you are, he targets little children as much as adults. There's flamethrowers, axes, scythes, knives and even fire pokers and a wood chipper (which is probably my favorite).



OVERALL: The story isn't as strong and important in this film as it was in the original, but this film is definitely scarier and more suspenseful. It doesn't surpass the original to me, due to the charm 80's horror films have on me, but this film here delivers. I was very pleased with "Silent Night", it will make even adults scared of Santa.

Regardless of the bad reviews I heard and read about 2009's The Collector, I really liked it. I found it fun, exciting, somewhat original and suspenseful. So yeah, I was pretty pumped for the sequel to come out. I wasn't disappointed.

The movie starts off with a television broadcasts that speak of the Collector and his recent crimes, there's a manhunt out for him. Arkin (Josh Stewart) is the Collector's most recent victim from the ending of the previous film.

Elena Peters (Emma Fitzpatrick) goes to a secluded party that her friends drag her to. The party takes place in a dingy  alley that looks suspicious. There they're greeted by a man with piercings all over his face and dreadlocks, they have to give him the password "nevermore" to enter the party. Upon entering, all of their fears and suspicions  disappear when they see the party is all they had been hoping it would be.

The fun doesn't last too long as the Collector has made this party his latest death maze, full of sick, sadistic torture and slaughtering devices that turn the entire club into a crimson mass. The traps, the deaths and the gore are really upped in this film and I was pleased, bring it on.

Arkin makes a lucky escape during the party after seeing Elena being taken by the Collector. Arkin gets treatment at a hospital. Where even there he isn't safe, he gets a card from the Collector threatening his family. Soon after, Arking is approached by Lucello and his team of hired mercenaries. Lucello is Elena's father's right hand man, and he' watched after Elena since she was a child. He's leading his team to find and kill the Collector, and find Elena.

Arkin gets strong-armed into leading Lucello and his hired team to the Collector, but he warns them of what they're getting into. Once they enter the Collector's lair, a run down hotel, it becomes a bloodbath. People being picked off one by one in pure brutality. I like how calm the Collector is, he has the odds stacked against him but he's always two steps ahead of everyone, he's meticulous.

As Arkin and Lucello dig further into the Collector's residence we see some of what makes the Collector tick, seeing how sick he is and learning what he does with his victims. I especially like this because there was no development with his character in the first film. This was definitely the right way to go for a sequel.

The film is incredibly violent, it pulls no punches. It comes packing a big punch. If you're not one for gore or torture you should probably turn this movie down, unless you want to lose your lunch. The acting wasn't anything fancy, but it worked. There's a lot of chaos going on in this film and it's a bloody good time.

I'm looking forward to where they go with the future of this series, if they're is one. I'd be interested to see where they go with a sequel, which will hopefully happen. The ending of The Collection is spot on and a good, refreshing change in cliche endings.

Will Tim carry on the legacy?




Jennifer Lynch comes out swinging with this psychological horror film that completely envelopes you. The movie is full of despair and it makes your heart sink to see the torment Tim goes through and how he's forced to live a life of hell after being captured by Bob, the cab driver. It hits everyone's worst fear, the fear of hopelessness and of being stuck somewhere with no where to go and no one to turn to.

Tim and his mother get dropped off at the movies by Tim's father at the movies. After being dropped off, Tim's mom tells him that since his dad isn't there she'll allow him to see the horror film he wants to see. It'll be their little secret.

After seeing the horror movie they catch a cab home. On the way home the driver takes a wrong turn, alarming Tim's mom. The cab driver gets out of the car and knocks out Tim's mom. Shortly after, Bob takes Tim and his mom to his house where he proceeds to murder Tim's mom.

Bob tells Tim that he didn't want him but now he's stuck with him, so he lays down the ground laws for Tim. He tells Tim that he is owns him and that Tim will obey him, turning Tim into his slave and making him do such things as clean his house and have dinner ready for him after work or else he'll face the consequences. He gives Tim the name of Rabbit.

Vincent D'Onofrio does a great job at playing Bob. This film really shows off Vincent's acting ability that some may not have known he had. Vincent delivers a chilling performance that showcases his acting in this film. Bob was the victim of being bullied by his father, taking the brunt of his father's abuse to protect his younger brother. Vincent transforms himself in this role, giving himself a hunch in his back and making himself have a lisp and a stutter that almost made him unrecognizable to me at first.

This film mainly focuses on how Bob is an average man who could blend in anywhere, nothing stands out about him to make you suspect him of anything. Jennifer Lynch takes advantage of how this could happen anywhere and drives it home with a suspense and fear that gnaws at you the whole movie.

As Rabbit starts to grow up, Bob decides he's going to start teaching him things he'll know to "be a man". To Bob, this means that Tim will learn how to hate women and kill them, making him see how they all "deserve" it because they're all born "whores".

The actors playing young and late-teen Tim do great jobs, Tim is a sympathetic figure you feel pitiful for. He's subjected to seeing Bob kill women on a regular basis and has to clean up the mess for years. We see how emotionally damaged Tim is, and how his hopes of escaping dwindle as the years pass. He's only allowed to eat what Bob leaves on his plate and can only speak when spoken to and he lives like this for years.

The most terrifying thing about this is how Bob doesn't see a thing wrong with what he's doing! When Tim grows up and starts to see that what Bob does is wrong, Bob calls Tim sick in the head! To think of people living with that type of "normal" standard is disturbing and terrifying.

Bob starts to make Tim learn the human anatomy so he can start killing women like Bob does. Teaching Tim the tools of the trade. Even with resistance, Tim goes ahead and reads the anatomy books.

Will Tim become truly hopeless and suffer the same fate as Bob, or will Tim hang on long enough to make an escape?

Bob makes Tim pick out a girl he likes, Tim picks a girl named Anne. Bob catches her for Tim in high hopes that Tim makes Annie his first kill. This was a breaking point in the film because it begs the question of how much of Tim's humanity has he lost after growing up in such a twisted environment.

When I first saw this trailer I knew I was going to like this movie. Overall I was very impressed with it. I didn't think that it dragged on too much at any part, I found it consistently entertaining. I thought the acting was top-notch and added to the well written story. This film is atmospheric and shows you how horrifying "daily life" can be.

This is one of the best horror film of the year for me, no doubt. I liked it instantly and it has a good twist.

V/H/S (2012)

A group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house in the countryside and acquire a rare tape. Upon searching the house, the guys are confronted with a dead body, a hub of televisions and an endless supply of cryptic footage, each video stranger than the last.



That's right! If you have Comcast as your cable provider you can view this movie now. I was waiting for this day since I first saw the trailer. I'm on a mission to see everything Ti West does or takes part in. For those of you who don't have Comcast, you'll have to wait to see the movie in theaters on October 5TH.


I'll start off by saying what I thought over all by the movie. I loved it. I thought it was brilliant. This movie has my vote for best horror film of the year thus far. Incredibly original. Every story is from a POV perspective.

Some people may complain about the movie do to there being some unknown dialog being said due to bad sound. However, this movie is totally authentic, they keep everything realistic. They didn't give you cliche's. It really felt like you were watching people and not actors. 

I thought the concept was engenius and top of the line in quality. I enjoyed every one of these stories. It's too early to say but it may be my favorite anthology movie. It definitely ranks among the elite.

The endings are really open and none of the stories explain anything. They kept it authentic. It's like you really just found someones video and watched it. It's very realistic.





TAPE 56

This story starts with a band of punks, guys looking for nothing but trouble destroying and graffiti-ing houses and running up on girls and pulling up their shirts all while recording it. We see them break into an old mans house, which they were hired to do. Their objective is to get a V/H/S tape from the house, only the old man has tons of tapes and this makes it impossible to know which is the right one. They then find the old man and owner of the house dead in his easy chair.


I liked this story and was intrigued to see where it was going and you knew that guys like this had something bad coming.

This story is about a group of guys who buy their friend glasses with a built in camera and go out on a guy night to score some chicks. And they do. And it's a night they'll never forget...

I loved this one and it may be my favorite of the bunch. I'm going to re-watch it again before I make my final assessment. I truly didn't know where this one was going and I was creeped out.

This story is about a couple on their second honeymoon being stalked by an unknown female. While in their hotel room the couple receives a knock on the door to reveal a girl asking for a ride somewhere tomorrow. Later that night while they sleep, the girl returns to stalk them and watch them as they sleep.

This story had creepy written all over it. To think of someone watching you like that chills me and is disturbing. Ti West did another good job. The end has a pretty gnarly twist I didn't see coming.

This film was a new take on slasher. A group of teens go into the woods for camping only to find out they're in the woods of a maniac serial killer.

I thought this film was a very clever. The deaths are brutal and gory. This one is a salute to the slasher fans. The killer is somehow unable to show up on tape as other than a blur or pixelated. 




THAT SICK THING THAT HAPPENED TO EMILY WHEN SHE WAS YOUNGER

This one is about a girl named Emily who moves into what she finds out is a haunted apartment. She and watch the horror happening in her apartment through web cam.

What an original idea, right? I loved this one. This one stands out as one of the best to me. The ending is pretty crazy and twisted.

This one was solid, very chilling tale. This one gets good points for creativity.

Dexter Season 7 Two Minute Sneak Peak

This film is based on a true story.

I had this little goody on my Netflix Instant queue for a while, it was one I've been meaning to get to. The only problem is that I'm always watching movies so I always have movies I've been "meaning to get to". But the time finally came for this one to be at the top of the list.

I was especially excited to see Michael Rooker in this movie. For those of you who don't know who Michael Rooker is, he's been in Slither, Tremors and The Walking Dead. He has a cult following of fans and I'm one of them. So it was good to see him in a serious role because this guy can be scary when he's in a solemn role.

The movie doesn't take too long to get started and I was immediately taken aback by how brutal and graphic the kills were. It's a shame I'm just seeing it because I think if I were around back when it was released it would have made the ground shake.

I first heard of this movie on Netflix and then when I saw that it was on a "Most Vile" movies list I knew I had to take this film seriously and give it a fair chance and I'm glad I did.

Henry was crazy, he was a cold blooded, stone cold murderer. He would and could randomly snap at any given moment. This movie had a few shocks for me that I didn't see coming and what a superb performance from Michael Rooker.

Henry's friend and roommate, Otis, is just as twisted as Henry. He often touches on and flirts with his very own sister. Eventually having to get Henry to step in and put him in line. But once Henry tells Otis that he's a murderer Otis quickly becomes out of control and enjoying the killings way to much. Henry instantly knows Otis has to knock off his twisted habits.

I liked their on screen aura and the performances they gave. It came off real and gritty and believable. I was just awaiting the conclusion to their building tension.

I also enjoyed seeing Henry play a different person for Otis' sister. I like seeing their relationship.

The ending made my jaw drop. Very powerful and deep stuff. Very wrong and very screwed up. But a very good movie.

The gore was good and the kills felt real supported by good actors and a disturbing story. If you haven't seen it, you definitely should watch it. It's on Netflix Instant so if you're in the mood for a nice twisted gory movie check it out. It's got my approval.

This film isn't available on DVD or Blu-ray and I don't have a VHS player, but that doesn't stop a guy like me.

This film was based on true events.

My first impression going into this movie was that it was going to be a good movie because it's deemed a classic by alot of horrorhound's. And after watching I can't say that I disagree, however there was one scene in particular that almost ruined the movie for me. The hooded killer attacks a victim with a trombone and I thought that it was absolutely ridiculous. I know the film had some humor going in but this scene just did not fit in with the rest of the movie at all. My opinion of this movie would be higher if this scene weren't in it. Take a look.

Now before and after that particular scene I liked the movie and was entertained. It's crazy to see how far the slasher genre's gone. I wasn't scared of this movie, but it kept me watching. I also didn't like that the killer used a gun, it just didn't come off as appropriate to me. But it is based on true events so if the killer used a gun it makes sense and I can't bash it for that. 

I can see how some people would defend this movie's faults (like the trombone scene) but it wasn't a bad movie. The acting was decent, the story was clever and some of the kills were pretty cool.

The ending was good, could have been better but I liked it. I wish I was alive during it's release because I'm sure the effect would have hit me harder. It's just a movie that has gotten outdated. But that's okay! Alot of our favorite horror films could be laughed at by today's audiences.

There's not alot of gore at all, but that doesn't hurt a movie, and alot of gore wouldn't fit with this movie.

Walking away from the movie I was a bit disappointed but overall I liked it. I think it would have been better if it took itself more seriously.

2 1/2 stars for me.

Dexter Season 6

That's right everybody, your favorite serial killer/father is back for a sixth time in this suspensful and highly anticipated drama. After where season 5 left of with both story and disapointment among fans this was thought to be a shot at redemption. However, contrary to what people may have said, I was a fan of season 5. I'm a fan of every season! This show is the best show on TV hands down and my personal favorite.

Michael C. Hall delivered again in this season, showing that he is perfect for this role and a fantastic actor. This guy's got skills. I know that everyone says that if someone on a show were to quit or something tragic happen they couldn't continue the show without them. Now for some people and shows this may be true like Charlie Sheen and Two And A Half Men. However, Michael C. Hall could not be replaced.

He simply is the role. He's the face. Hell, I read the books (which aren't half as good as the show by the way) and I hear his voice as Dexter in my mind while reading. I simply can't imagine someone else's voice or someone else's appearance in this role.

Now in this season Dexter is realizing what it's like to be a single father and what Harrison will be imprinted with from him being his dad and a serial killer. Wondering if his psychotic ways will rub off on his son somehow. So Dexter starts to think what his legacy will be that he leaves to Harrison and he finds himself befriending a former criminal turned preacher. This puts all sorts of religious thoughts in his head. Although he doesn't believe in God or anything that he feels isn't logical he can't help but be curious and possibly open his mind to other possibilities. And of course, if it'll be good for Harrison to grow up with a positive essence in his life like religion.

And this season's villain is a twisted bastard who kills because he believes he'll bring on the apocalypse and rid the world of it's existance. He actually wants to end the world and so he kills people with re-enactments from The Book Of Revelations in the Bible. The media dubbs him DDK, short for Doomsday Killer. DDK (played by Edward James Olmos) has a sidekick who helps him by the name of Travis (played by Colin Hanks) who doubts if his older and wiser companion is really talking to God or is just insane. This doubt causes major trouble between them.

This season also shows you Dexter's sister, Debra getting promoted to Lieutenant and how this effects her relationship with Detective Quinn. You also see the Morgan's old family friend and Chief of police Detective Mathews get into a mess.

I don't want to go into detail and ruin anything for anyone so I'll stop there. But if you haven't seen this season you need to jump on it. And if you've never watched Dexter before at all I find if fit to call you crazy (laugh). Seriously this show is great. The finale was great and the season's twist was downright jawdropping.

Despite the negative reviews some so-called fans gave it I liked this season alot and consider it to be one of the best yet. I'll be impatiently awaiting the 7th season. 'Til then I'll be buying this season on dvd and re-watching it.

Dexter got renewed for 2 more seasons, however they will be the last 2 seasons of this show. And they both will be about the aftermath of this season's finale. And boy, what a finale t was.

Dexter season 6 gets  3 1/2 stars from me.
